A Frozen Slice of Motion

For me, dogs have never been “just pets.” They have been part of the rhythm of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up with them, lived alongside them, and measured entire chapters of life through their habits, quirks, and the way they quietly take over a home. They are comedians, therapists, chaos engines, and loyal shadows all at once. I genuinely cannot imagine life without them underfoot.

That is exactly why I keep returning to them in my work.

This series is my way of honouring the tiny, perfect moments that dog people instantly recognise. Not the grand, noble, heroic poses. The real stuff. The awkward scratch that looks like a full-time occupation. The split second mid-jump when they seem to forget gravity exists. The eager pull on the lead when the world suddenly becomes the most exciting place on earth. The bow, the crouch, the sprint, the pause, and all those funny, self-serious rituals dogs perform every day as if they are starring in their own private film.

Those are the moments I’m interested in. The in-between moments. The ones that pass so quickly you almost miss them, yet somehow say everything about who they are.

I try to capture each one at the exact point where it feels most alive, when the paws barely touch the ground and the whole body becomes pure intention. Each sculpture becomes a frozen slice of motion, a still frame loaded with energy, personality, and that unmistakable dog logic that somehow makes perfect sense to them. You can almost feel the next movement coming.

What I love about dogs is that they are never only one thing. They can be elegant and ridiculous within the same second. They can look deeply wise, then immediately run into a chair because they got too excited about a leaf. That combination of grace, absurdity, devotion, and total commitment to the moment is endlessly fascinating to me. It is also what makes them such a rich subject for sculpture.

Ultimately, these works are a tribute. To the dogs I have loved, to the lives they fold themselves into, and to the joy they bring through the smallest everyday gestures. But they are also an invitation. An invitation to laugh, to recognise your own dog in mine, and to remember how much life and joy can exist inside just a few seconds of ordinary movement.

If you have ever loved a dog, you will know exactly the moment I am talking about.

If you have not, I hope these works make you want to.
