Don't Hold Your Breath solo exhibition
Ferdi B Dick solo exhibition "Don't Hold Your Breath" opens at O Sculpture Art Space, Penang
George Town, Penang. Sculptor Ferdi B Dick presents Don't Hold Your Breath, a solo exhibition of 23 animal sculptures in pink onyx, granite, marble, crystal, stainless steel, and acrylic wall art at O Sculpture Art Space from 5 to 28 June 2026.
The title is a joke. The artist wants you to do the opposite. Breathe out.
Every sculpture in the room feels caught mid-exhale. Tongues out. Mouths open. A Foo lion forgetting to be dignified. A giraffe that cannot help itself. A turtle-dragon that is ancient and silly in the same breath.
The materials are old and heavy: granite, marble, pink onyx, crystal and steel. The shapes are not. A South African lion meets a Chinese guardian. Old stone meets pop. Tradition meets play.
Pink onyx is the trick the artist loves most. Semi-precious, translucent, solid and soft at once. You look at it and cannot decide if it is weight or light.
A lion becomes a release. A rhino becomes a boundary. A giraffe becomes vigilance. A pangolin becomes armour. A horse becomes the moment before lift. Stone gives the works weight and silence. Crystal holds light inside itself. Stainless steel reflects the world back at the viewer. Together, the sculptures ask what happens when a feeling finds the right body, and what changes when we finally stop holding our breath.
Animals caught in stone, crystal and steel, each carrying a different kind of breath: a roar, a pause, a laugh, a warning, a small moment of release.
